Caleb Williams ready to win for Chicago |
As expected, the Chicago Bears drafted quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
He comes to Chicago ready to bring success to the Bears and their fanbase. “The culture, the coaches, because that’s where (winning) stems from, and then I’d also say the love and support that the fans have been giving. They’re ready. They’re hungry. They’re all excited, and so are we,” Williams said. “I go out there, I handle my job, I be a great teammate first and foremost. I handle business on and off the field, and then I go to work. I enjoy what I do. I love what I do. I’m in there with my guys and my guys seeing me, they see how hard I work, their guy, their QB and we go get it. We go win games together. That’s the biggest thing is winning games together because I can’t win a game by myself. Keenan Allen can’t win a game by himself and so, making sure that we’re all together on and off the field, defense, special teams, and we go get it.” Chicago was the only team Williams met with for his top-30 visits, showing that both parties knew this pick was imminent. When he talked with the executives, the Bears showed Williams their passion for winning, which is part of why he is looking forward to playing for Chicago for the foreseeable future. “When I met with the coaches, they didn’t just tell me. They were showing me how we do it and that’s always big. I’ve always been a routine guy. I’ve always been true to my work, committed to that and things like that,” Williams said. “They’ve been saying they want to win. They’ve been saying that they’re hungry and things like that and when I went there on the visit, they were showing me plans and how they’d do it and how they plan on implementing that and things like that throughout the whole team, myself, to be able to lead these guys to victory.” Part of the top-30 visit was also meeting with some of the team leaders, such as wide receiver DJ Moore. Williams was also part of a workout with Moore, receiver Keenan Allen, and Chicago’s No. 9 draft pick Rome Odunze. Williams learned a lot about Moore, helping to build their strong connection, which should surely translate to the field. Allen and Odunze's participation in this workout should also build team chemistry going into next season. I learned that he’s ready to go,” Williams said. “Since my top-30 visit, we probably talk every week and just reaching out to each other, connecting, because that’s a big connection getting the ball to 2. So, that’d be great, exciting, but we got to go to work.” Chicago only has two picks left in the draft - No. 75 overall in the third round and No. 122 overall in the fourth round from the Philadelphia Eagles. While it is not a lot, it still allows the Bears to address some other areas of concern, such as potentially going with an edge rusher to accompany Montez Sweat on the defensive line. The second and third rounds will start later today (6 p.m./ABC), while the fourth through seventh rounds will be on Saturday, April 27 (11 a.m./ABC). DAAAAA BEARSSSSSS!! We are otw!! 🐻#18
