Brett Anderson injury update

by - Senior Editor -

The Cubs announced that Brett Anderson is currently being evaluated for lower back tightness. Anderson left Saturday night's game in the first inning against the New York Yankees as he was shelled for five runs on six hits as the Yankees batters were taking turns using him for batting practice.

The Cubs athletic trainer went out to see Anderson and he left the game after only recording one out in the game. Anderson was booed by the Wrigley Field faithful as he has allowed a crazy 19 runs in only 22 innings pitched as a newcomer this season with the Cubs. In his last two games, he has gotten only five total outs, given up 12 runs, and allowed 13 hits.

"Whenever the backup catcher gets more outs than you that's never a good thing," Anderson said in postgame interviews.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said following the game that he expects Anderson to go on the disabled list with Mike Montgomery or Eddie Butler as options moving forward.
