Cubs hire Willie Harris as new third base coach |
Moves are happening fairly fast on the Northside.
The Chicago Cubs will hire Willie Harris as their new third-base coach, according to multiple reports, including ESPN Buster Olney. There was a vacancy at that position after Will Venable left the Cubs to become the new bench coach of the Boston Red Sox. Harris has previously spent 12 years in the major leagues as mostly a utility player with stops with the Reds, Braves, Red Sox, Orioles, Nationals, and White Sox (2005 WS title). The 42-year-old was the baserunning/outfield coordinator for the Reds organization last season. This should complete the Cubs' staff for the 2021 season unless there is more shakeup to follow besides the general manager position. No official word yet on Harris yet. We will keep you posted on this breaking story. New #Cubs third base coach Willie Harris on the Cubs #WhiteSox rivalry: “I loved my time with the White Sox. And I am very excited to join the Chicago Cubs organization. I am looking forward to waving Cubs base runners home against the White Sox outfield.”
Willie Harris, longtime utilityman, is expected to be the Cubs' third base coach.
