Cubs make decision on Hector Rondon |
The Chicago Cubs will not tender a contract to reliever Hector Rondon making him a free agent according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
Rondon was to earn around $6.2 million after arbitration and the Cubs decided that money was better spent elsewhere. His salary in 2017 was $5.8 million. In 2017, Rondon had a 4.24 ERA with 69 strikeouts and 1.22 WHIP. Rondon was not added to the postseason until the NLCS so this decision today was certainly a possibility. There is a chance that the Cubs and Rondon decide to re-up with each other during free agency period but it would be at a much cheaper rate. During his 4-year major league career in 296 appearances, he has a 3.22 ERA with 77 saves, 18-13 record, 303 strikeouts, and 1.13 WHIP. He was selected by the Cubs from the Indians in the 2012 Rule 5 draft. Thank you Hector Rondon pic.twitter.com/XqK1TrktOw
