Cubs make roster move, two players elect free agency

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have outrighted catcher Caleb Knight off the 40-man roster and can now declare free agency to head to the Iowa Cubs.

The 28-year-old backstop is a journeyman catcher, a depth piece for the Northsiders.

In other roster news, veteran Kyle Hendricks and reliever Jorge Lopez have elected for free agency.

What a run by the 'Professor' with the Cubs.

These are just a few of the moves as veteran reliever Drew Smyly's mutual option has to be decided in the next few days, and Cody Bellinger has to decide if he will stay with the Cubs or head to free agency again.

Stay tuned to CubsHQ all offseason for the latest free agency news and rumors.
