
Cubs place Justin Steele on IL, recall RHP from Triple-A |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled RHP Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa and placed LHP Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 8) with left elbow tendinitis.
Roberts, 27, has tossed 4.1 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, compared to no walks, in three games this season with the I-Cubs. Last season, he split time between the Cubs, Iowa and Double-A Tennessee, including 21 major league games, in which he went 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA (11 ER/26.2 IP). Steele, 29, is 3-1 with a 4.76 ERA (12 ER/22.2 IP) in four starts for the Cubs this season with 21 strikeouts and just five walks. After dropping his first start of the season in Tokyo, Steele is 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA (7 ER/18.2 IP) in three starts. He tossed 7.0 scoreless innings on Monday at Wrigley Field vs. Texas with eight strikeouts and no walks. The Cubs host the Texas Rangers today at 1:20 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score, and in Spanish on WRTO-AM.
