Davis Ross reacts to managing a no-hitter: "Just a proud parent moment"

Cubs starting pitcher Alec Mills threw the 16th no-hitter in team history against the Brewers on Sunday afternoon.

Cubs manager David Ross talked to the media moments after the historic moment and shared his reaction.

"I was letting him roll. He was in control the whole day."

Ross enjoyed watching the terrific performance by Mills.

"Just a proud parent moment. That’s how you feel. You see the adversity somebody’s been through. To work hard, get an opportunity and make the most of it is really rewarding from my seat."

Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward told Ross around the sixth inning not to take him out because he wanted to help be a part of the potential no-hitter.

"He was riding with Millsy," he said. "Don't take him out until you take Mills out. You get that feedback from the players, and that just warms your heart and what a professional group we have and how much they care about one another."

Ross was the catcher in the last Cubs' no-hitter back in 2016 with Jake Arrieta on the mound. He becomes the 11th man in MLB history to both catch and manage a no-hitter.
