Ian Happ wins his first career Gold Glove Award

by - Senior Editor -

It HAPPened!

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ won the National League Gold Glove for left field on Tuesday.

Happ won the award over Christian Yelich and David Peralta.

He is the first Cubs player to win a Glove Glove since Javy 'El Mago' Baez and Anthony Rizzo won it it back in 2020. Overall, Happ is only the fourth Cubs outfielder to ever win the prestigious award alongside two-time winner Andrew Dawson, Jason Heyward and Bob Dernier.

Happ was asked about the award in early September.

“That’d be really cool,” Happ said. “We’ve still got a lot of baseball left. You come to work every day and do your job and you look at that stuff at the end of the year. But honestly, that’s one of those honors I thought about a lot as a kid when I was playing shortstop – not as much as a left fielder. But it would be really cool.”

The All-Star left fielder hit .271 with 17 homers and 72 RBIs this past season. He lead all left fielders with 13 defensive runs saved accprdomg to FanGraphs.

He also had the highest ultimate zone rating and the second-most outfield assists among left fielders with 8.

Congrats to Happ from everyone at CubsHQ.com.
