Jason Heyward activated from DL, two players sent down |
Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward has been activated from the disabled list on Monday afternoon and will start today's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Heyward had a brief rehab assignment in South Bend and will be back to playing right field and batting sixth for the Cubs.
In 2017, Heyward is batting .258 with six homers, 29 RBI, and .315 on-base percentage. The Cubs also will call up lefty reliever Jack Leathersich (4.56 ERA at Triple-A) and option third baseman Jeimer Candelario and reliever Felix Pena to Triple-A Iowa. Candelario has not hit his stride in the majors yet as he has a .167 average during this stint with the Cubs.
