Javier Baez activated from the DL |
The Chicago Cubs activated super-utility player Javier Baez from the disabled list on Friday morning.
Baez was on the disabled list as he recovered from a left thumb contusion injury that he suffered on Opening Day. Cubs infielder Munenori Kawasaki was optioned to Triple-A to make room for Baez's roster spot. Kawasaki had a hit in two at-bats and a stolen base during his brief stint in Chicago. The 23-year-old Baez hit .267 (4-15) with a home run and a stolen base in four games with Iowa and the Cubs plan to use his versatility in spots at second base, third base, shortstop and left field. In 2015, he batted .289 with six doubles, one home run and four RBI in 28 games last season. For his short MLB career (80 games), he has batted .201 with a .733 OPS, 10 home runs, 12 doubles, 24 RBIs and 119 strikeouts. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft. .@javy23baez sighting in the #Cubs clubhouse. Big smile & even a good morning for all the media. Happy to be here & healthy.
