Maddon fires back on Anderson's classless jab

by - Senior Editor -

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Brett Anderson took to Twitter on Sunday night to blast the Cubs after hhis short 2017 stint with them after signing him to a $3.5 million contract in January.

"It's crazy what happens when you aren't tinkered with and can just go out and pitch, Anderson posted on Sunday night.

Maddon was asked about Anderson's classless tweet on Monday.

“That’s why I love Twitter so much,” Maddon said via CSN Chicago. “How many characters in Twitter?

“To purvey your thoughts, your deepest, darkest thoughts. That’s what the President does every day, oh my God. You get everything out there in 140 characters, my God, it’s so in depth, it’s so meaningful.”

Maddon understands that the manager go only do so much and sometimes the player has to just perform.

“When a guy’s going to say something like that, he’s had a tough year,” Maddon said. “God bless him, I hope he comes back. I hope he wins 20 games next year. I mean that sincerely. But when a player has a tough year, it’s on the player.”

For the season, Anderson has a 2-3 record with a horrible 6.42 ERA, 22 strikeouts, and 1.75 WHIP. He also had a 4.61 ERA in Double-A ball this season.

Anderson was booed heavily by the Wrigley Field faithful in his last home start on May 6 and allowed a crazy 19 runs in only 22 innings with the Cubs this season. In his final two games, he got only five total outs, gave up 12 runs, and allowed 13 hits. In his 8 starts with the Cubs, he had a horrid 8.18 ERA.

One of Maddon's mantras is 'Try not to Suck' and Anderson wasn't able to do this in Chicago.
