SAN DIEGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. on the paternity list and recalled left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny from Triple-A Iowa.

Zastryzny will be available for the Cubs tonight as they continue their three-game series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

The 26-year-old Zastryzny joins the Cubs for the third time this year, going 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA (1 ER/5.1 IP) in five relief outings during the first two stints. Zastryzny also spent time on the major league disabled list from June 24-July 5 due to a left lat strain. With Iowa this year, he has gone 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA (15 ER/37.0 IP) in 20 relief appearances.

Zastryzny has now spent parts of the three seasons (2016-18) in the big leagues with the Cubs, combining to go 2-0 with a 3.93 ERA (15 ER/34.1 IP) in 17 major league appearances, all but one in relief. The southpaw was originally selected by the Cubs in the second round of the 2013 Draft out of the University of Missouri. He is 21-21 with one save and a 4.59 ERA (218 ER/427.0 IP) in 110 minor league appearances, including 78 starts, in six minor league campaigns.

Edwards, 26, is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA (9 ER/28.0 IP) in 29 relief appearances for the Cubs this season.
