Report: AL team in talks with Jon Jay

by - Senior Editor -

Jon Jay was a fan favorite in Chicago after signing a one-year contract for $8 million with the Cubs last offseason.

However, his days on the North Side are probably numbered as free agency is now in full swing. According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Seattle Mariners are in talks with Jay about signing him to a contract.

"Mariners and OF Jon Jay are talking," Feinsaid posted. "No deal done, but seems as though there's some momentum there."

The Mariners are looking for a fourth outfielder and someone that could platoon with Guillermo Heredia and Jay would fit that situation perfectly.

In 2017, Jay batted .296 with two homers, 34 RBI, six stolen bases, and had a .374 on-base percentage. For his 8-year MLB career, he has batted .288 with 33 homers and 287 RBI.

He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2006 MLB Draft.
