Roster Moves: Cubs reportedly trade catcher to Mets, bring up bullpen help

by - Senior Editor -

According to the Cubs official transactions page, the team has demoted veteran reliever Jose Cuas to Triple-A Iowa.

He has had a tough start to the season with a 9.00 ERA in five outings this year.

During an interview with 670 The Score's Spiegel & Parkins on Friday afternoon, Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced that reliever Keegan Thompson will be recalled from Iowa to take Cuas' spot in the bullpen.

"Every year, bullpens and figuring out what’s going on with them is a little bit of a process,” Counsell said. "And unfortunately, Jose struggled to start the season, so Keegan gets an opportunity."

Thompson has a 4.50 ERA and 1.167 WHIP at Iowa in four appearances this season.

All of the runs he gave up were in his first appearance. He likely will be available for the game tonight against the Seattle Mariners (Apple+ only).

In another move that has yet to be announced, the Cubs have reportedly traded minor league catcher Joe Hudson to the New York Mets for cash considerations.

Hudson was hitless in eight plate appearances with Iowa this season.

The Mets have assigned him to Double-A Binghamton.
