Theo Epstein announces several injury updates for Morrow, Hoerner, others |
The Cubs are winning games and getting healthier every day.
Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein spoke to reporters during pre-game of Tuesday's road game against the Reds and summarized the injury front for his players on the big-league level and a few of his top prospects. Epstein shared that Brandon Morrow could return to a new throwing program in a week or two (two weeks since an injection) after being evaluated this week, prospect Adbert Alzolay will start Friday's game for Triple-A Iowa, Tony Barnette will pitch in an extended spring training game tomorrow, veteran Brian Duensing is bothered by a sore shoulder, top prospect Nico Hoerner (hand injury) headed to Arizona for hitting program and backup catcher Victor Caratini will return to the Cubs soon (possibly after tomorrow's Taylor Davis' start on Wednesday). In addition to all of those injury updates, first baseman Anthony Rizzo won't start for the second straight game as he is dealing with a back issue. Kris Bryant will get the nod at first base against the Reds tonight. No new update on veteran Ben Zobrist as he is still on personal leave from the ballclub.
