Yu Darvish leaves game early with injury |
Not ideal injury news as Opening Day is just over a week away.
Cubs starter Yu Darvish had to leave Tuesday's game with two outs in the fifth inning because of a right finger injury. Cubs trainers and pitching coach Tommy Hottovy had a mound visit and checked out his hand and decided he was done for the game. Before they came out for the visit, Javier Baez and Willson Contreras motioned the trainers to check on Darvish. Darvish left the game in a good mood giving a hug to Contreras and giving some of his teammates fist pumps. He was impressive during the ballgame throwing 4.2 innings giving up five hits, two runs including only one earned run with two walks and six strikeouts. At one point in the game, he was clocked at 96 MPH on his fastball. He even chipped in offensively with an RBI single. The Cubs announced that it was a blister on his right ring finger. Hopefully, this won't be a serious issue moving forward. Darvish said after the game reportedly that the blister will be treated with a laser and cream and he wants to see how it feels tomorrow by playing catch. "Lot of guys told me… I’m not sure I can say it here. Just pee on it," Darvish told the Athletic. "Well, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or what." His spring ERA is now at a low 2.25 and he has 14 strikeouts in 12 innings. You can see the blister on Yu Darvish‘s ring finger. It knocked him out of Tuesday's spring start but he says he'll be ok. https://t.co/5o5BvKulUT pic.twitter.com/iWCGFNAEZg
Yu Darvish says he doesn’t think his blister is that big of deal. He’s planning to play catch tomorrow and throw bullpen on Thursday. #Cubs pic.twitter.com/N4xdnCgi0o
