The Cubs (6-10) split games on Saturday, Beating the Indians 8-5, but losing to their Ohio NL counterpart by the same score. This afternoon, they hosted the Diamondbacks (4-9), with the other half of the squad facing the Reds again.

Chicago lined up as follows: David Bote (2B), Kyle Schwarber (LF), Willson Contreras (C), Jason Heyward (RF), Steven Souza Jr. (CF), Albert Almora Jr. (DH), Daniel Descalso (3B), Hernan Perez (1B), Zack Short (SS). The Cubs will give Jose Quintana (0-0, 13.50 ERA) the ball to start the game, while the D-Backs used Joe Duplantier (1-0, 2.45 ERA) as their starter.

Quintana's troubles would continue with this start. In the first, he gave up a pair of hits and a pair of walks, giving the D-Backs an early 1-0 lead.

'Q' would work a scoreless second but did allow a leadoff single. Q would end his day with 3-H, 1-R, 1-ER, 2-BB, and 2-K (ERA now 9.00).

The Cubs would come back in the bottom of the second, parlaying Daniel Descalso's leadoff single into a run, after a bases-loaded walk.

Craig Kimbrel would pitch the third, giving up a leadoff double, then with one away, dished up a two-run blast (Jake Lamb) to put the D-Backs up by two. Dirty Craig would accumulate a pair of K's but would be replaced by lefty, Kyle Ryan. Ryan would hit a batter before striking out the next to end the assault. Cubs trail 3-1.

Kyle Ryan would return to work the fourth, and the Snakes would strike. With two out, they'd manage three consecutive hits to score another insurance run. Cubs now trail 4-1. Ryan's line: 1.1 IP, 3-H, 1-R, 0-ER, 2-BB, 1-K.

SUBS: Alfonso Rivas (1B), Christopher Morel (3B), Zach Davis (CF).

Righty Jeremy Jeffress pitched the fifth for Chicago, giving up a double to Jon Jay and then a single to Vargas. Marte would hit a sac-fly scoring Jay, making it 5-1 in favor of Arizona. Jeffress; line: 1.0 IP, 2-H, 1-R, 1-ER, 0-BB, 1-K.

Righty Dillon Maples pitched the sixth, looking incredible as he struck out the side. Cubs still trail 5-1. Maples still hosts a 0.00 ERA this spring.

SUBS: Bottom of the sixth: Miguel Amaya (C), Charcer Burks (RF).

Lefty Danny Hultzen finally got a chance to make his debut at the top of the seventh, working a scoreless frame. (1-H, 1-K).

SUBS: Robel Garcia (2B), Luis Verdugo (SS).

Righty Brock Stewart would hurl the eighth for the Cubs, allowing the Reds to build a 6-1 lead with a double and single eventually.

RHP Jason Adam would work the ninth, giving up a two-run blast.

The Cubs would fail to produce in the ninth, ending a disappointing outing.

Final Score D-Backs-8; Cubs-1.

Cubs’ Offense 3 for 230 (.100), 0-7 (.000) with RISP

< Next Game: The Cubs will enjoy a much-needed off-day, then return to action on Tuesday at 3:05 PM, when they travel to face the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium.
