Cubs reduce Spring Roster to 33 players, Happ to Triple-A

MESA – The Chicago Cubs have assigned six players to minor league camp and granted right-handed pitcher Junichi Tazawa his release, reducing their spring roster from 40 to 33 players.

Right-handed pitchers Dillon Maples and Alec Mills, outfielder Ian Happ and catcher Taylor Davis have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: infielder Cristhian Adames and outfielder Johnny Field.

Chicago’s spring roster of 33 players consists of 20 pitchers (which includes one non-roster invitee plus right-handed pitcher Kendall Graveman, 60-day I.L.), two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders.
