CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed left-handed pitcher Brian Duensing on the 10-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation and recalled left-handed pitcher Randy Rosario from Triple-A Iowa.

Rosario, 24, begins his fourth stint with the Cubs and is available for today’s game against the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field.

Rosario is 4-0 with seven holds and a 1.97 ERA (7 ER/32.0 IP) in 26 relief appearances for the Cubs this season. He has walked 16, struck out 19, and limited opponents to a .233 batting average (27-for-116) and .326 on-base percentage. The southpaw has stranded 15 of 18 inherited runners and held the opponent scoreless in 20 of 26 outings. In 11 appearances of more than an inning, Rosario has posted a 1.33 ERA (3 ER/20.1 IP).

Claimed off waivers by the Cubs in November of last year, Rosario has no record and a 0.46 ERA (1 ER/19.2 IP) in 12 games with Iowa this season.

Rosario made his major league debut with the Twins last year, allowing eight earned runs in 2.1 innings in two relief outings. In eight minor league seasons, he is 18-22 with a 3.21 ERA (133 ER/372.1 IP) in 120 outings, including 55 starts. A native of Rio San Juan, D.R., Rosario originally signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Twins in August of 2010.

Duensing, 35, is 3-0 with a one save, two holds and a 7.34 ERA (28 ER/34.1 IP) in 43 relief appearances for the Cubs this season. He pitched to a 0.54 ERA (1 ER/16.2 IP) in his first 23 games through May 27, but has since produced a 13.75 ERA (27 ER/17.2 IP) in his last 20 appearances. He was on the 10-day disabled list, July 1-13, with left shoulder fatigue.
