Three Cubs prospects named to All-Star Futures Game

Cubs prospects Matt Shaw, Owen Caissie and Moises Ballesteros have been selected by Major League Baseball to participate in the All-Star Futures Game.

Matt Shaw, Infielder, Tennessee Smokies

Hitting .251 (61-for-243) with ten home runs and 35 RBI in 68 games for Double-A Tennessee this season

Shaw’s 40 walks are tied for second in the Southern League while his 43 runs are tied for fourth, 10 home runs are tied for fifth in the and .361 OBP rank ninth

Currently ranks 30th in the Top 100 prospect rankings according to MLB Pipeline

The 22-year-old was drafted with the 13th overall pick out of the University of Maryland in 2023

Owen Caissie, Outfielder, Iowa Cubs

In 73 games with Triple-A Iowa this season, Caissie is hitting .283 (76-for-269) with eight home runs and 45 RBI

His 46 walks this season are tied for eighth-most in the International League

Currently ranks 35th in the Top 100 prospect rankings according to MLB Pipeline

The native Canadian will turn 22 years old on July 8 and was acquired by the Cubs on Dec. 29, 2020 from San Diego

Moises Ballesteros, Catcher, Iowa Cubs

After beginning the season with Double-A Tennessee where he hit .299 (58-for-194) with nine home runs and 43 RBI in 56 games, Ballesteros was promoted to Triple-A Iowa on June 18

With the I-Cubs, is hitting .378 (17-for-45) with one home run and three RBI

Currently ranks 61st in the Top 100 prospect rankings according to MLB Pipeline

The 20-year-old Venezuelan is one of three position players aged 20-or-younger to have appeared in a game in the International League this season and was signed by the Cubs on Jan. 15, 2021 as a minor league free agent
