The end of an era with the Monsters of the Midway.
The Chicago Bears announced on Thursday that they have released veteran safety Eddie Jackson. Jackson started all 100 games he played in seven seasons with the Bears, registering 459 tackles, 15 interceptions, 44 pass breakups, ten forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 14 tackles-for-loss and 2.0 sacks. In 2023, he had 37 tackles, one interception and five pass breakups. "I know [Jackson was] dinged up a little bit there, but I thought where his impact is really with Brisker and the communication on the back end," general manager Ryan Poles said about Jackson's 2023 season. "When Eddie was in, you could tell Brisker felt really, really comfortable. Really that whole group, he really impacts the communication, and you could see that." Veteran Cody Whitehair was also released today, saving the team over $20.5 million in cap space, which could be used to re-sign Jaylon Johnson to a long-term deal. Over The Cap estimates the Bears are $66,996,157 under the 2024 salary cap, which is third-highest in the NFL. Best of luck to Jackson on his next NFL stop.
