Bears select CB with No. 50 overall pick |
A solid round two for the Da Bears.
The Chicago Bears select former Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson with the 50th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday night. He has battled several injuries in college including playing this past season with a torn labrum but still was a second-team All-American in 2019. He was the best cornerback arguably left in the draft and some analysts had him as high as the third-highest rated cornerback in the 2019 draft class. The Bears previously selected tight end Cole Kmet with the No. 43 pick earlier in the second round. The newest Monster of the Midway is DB Jaylon Johnson!
No one would have blinked if Jaylon Johnson had been picked in the 20s of the first round. Excellent value for the Bears.
Jaylon Johnson was expected to go higher. The Bears came into this draft hoping -- and needing -- to get two Day 1 starters from two second-round picks and in Kmet and Johnson, they've put themselves in that position. Ryan Pace can sleep well tonight.
You can always beef about picks, and I won't tell you not to.

HOWEVER.
Bears, who need a tight end, land the best tight end in the draft.
Bears, who need a starting corner, land a very good one.
That's a good second round.
