CHICAGO — According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, veteran Chicago Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks is eager to get a contract extension inked and wants to finish his career with the Bears. Hicks, 31, is in the final year of of a four-year deal and will be paid $12 million this season, yet he wants his Bears tenure to continue in 2022 and beyond.

Schefter reported this week that he spoke with Drew Rosenhaus, Hicks' agent, at Halas Hall and was told that "Akiem wants to finish his career with the Bears, if possible." Hicks has yet to publicly comment on his contract situation, but is reportedly hoping to sign a long-term deal with the Bears that will enable him to finish his career in Chicago.

Entering his 10th NFL season, Hicks racked up 49 combined tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in 15 regular season starts for the Bears in 2020. He has arguably been the anchor of the Bears' defensive line since joining the team in 2016 and is expected to maintain that role in what might be his final season with the Bears this year.
