The longest-tenured player on the Bears will be out for a while.

Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Scales will have back surgery on Thursday and begin the season on the injured list according to multiple reports.

The Chicago Tribune first reported about the surgery news with Scales.

If he indeed lands on the season IR, he will required to miss the first four games of the season and be eligible to return against the Carolina Panthers on October 6.

With Scales out, the team will likely turn to the former Lions snapper Scott Daly.

Scales was injured during the Hall of Fame Game against the Houston Texans on August 1.

He has been with the team since 2015.
