With most fans still trying to recover from another painful Bears loss on Sunday, it was back to business as usual for the Bears as they returned to Halas Hall on Tuesday. What is expected to be another tough week trying to bounce back from this loss will only get tougher as the Vikings come to town on Sunday before Chicago heads to Detroit on Thanksgiving.
Knowing how potent both of these offenses can be, Chicago would love to be at full strength on the defensive side. However, with Jaquon Brisker still dealing with concussion-like symptoms and placed on IR, Chicago will be without his services for at least three more weeks. That puts even more pressure on Kyler Gordon, Jaylon Johnson, Kevin Byard, and the rest of the Bears secondary to pick up the slack, as Brisker is a critical piece to this defense. Chicago needs to add at least some potential depth to the safety position, so it is working out players. Veteran safety Terrell Edmunds is in Chicago working out for the Bears. Edmunds is a household name in Chicago as he is the older brother of current Bears LB Tremaine Edmunds who is in the second season of a massive five-year deal. How cool is that for not only the Bears but also the entire Edmunds family? Should his workout go according to plan, there could be a family affair in Chicago. A former first-round pick, Edmunds has had a tough time latching on to a team this season, as he has seen time with both Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. Now a free agent for the third time this season, Terrell hopes the third time is a charm, as he would love to finish the season with his brother in Chicago. While Tremaine has had more success than his brother, indicated by his Pro Bowl nominations, that isn't to say Terrell can't be a solid player for the Bears. After all, he was a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018, so from a talent standpoint, Pittsburgh loved what they saw in him. For the most part, Edmunds had a solid career with the Steelers. He enjoyed five years in Pittsburgh before being dealt to Philadelphia. Then came the trade from Philadelphia to Tennessee, as he was part of the Byard deal that sent Byard to Philadelphia. Ironically, Byard is now in the Bears secondary, so there is a slight connection between them even if it isn't a direct connection. Following his brief stint with the Titans, Edmunds signed with the Jaguars this summer before being released earlier in the season. He then returned to the Steelers practice squad and is now trying his luck for the Bears to land a deal and make this team. Over the course of his seven seasons, Edmunds may not be a game-changing safety, but he has shown the ability to make plays, which is all the Bears are asking of anyone right now. Edmunds has logged six career interceptions thus far, along with 7.5 sacks, as he has shown his versatility throughout the defense. Not only are the Bears dealing with the injury to Brisker, but Elijah Hicks went out with an ankle injury against the Packers and is expected to miss a few weeks. That leaves the door open for a guy like Edmunds to land on this roster as he is hoping for another chance to not only be part of an organization but to land on an active roster. While Edmunds and his brother have grown up playing together, they have never played together on the same team, and this could be their only chance of that happening. As good a story as that is, no one cares about the sentimental stuff, as the only thing fans care about is production. Edmunds has shown he can produce when he is counted on, and even if his role on the team is limited, he would be a nice addition to the Bears' secondary. With Justin Jefferson and Amon-ra St. Brown on the horizon, the Bears' secondary could use all the extra help they can get, as it needs to be all hands on deck now.
