Start’em or Sit’em in Fantasy Football: Bears vs. Colts

by - Correspondent -

Chicago’s offensive struggles certainly have not helped anyone in fantasy football this season. However, going against one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL this coming Sunday in the Indianapolis Colts (Noon / CBS) could provide an opportunity for some strong performances.

Caleb Williams - Start in 12-Team League Depending on Roster

This may sound crazy, given how the first two weeks of the NFL season have done for Williams. However, he has a lot of rushing upside. Against Houston, the Heisman winner had 44 rushing yards and should have had the first touchdown of his NFL career, but rookie receiver Rome Odunze could not quite come down with the ball. Indianapolis has one of the worst rushing defenses in the league, and they just lost their top defender, DeForest Buckner, to injury. Statistically, the Colts are the No. 8 passing defense. However, they have gone against the fourth-least passing attempts, probably because teams have had so much success running the ball.

Therefore, this game provides an opportunity for Williams to finally have a good fantasy week.

DJ Moore - Start

It's another fantasy week, another week with DJ Moore in the starting lineup. Moore has been getting the targets with 18 targets through the first two weeks. While those targets have not quite resulted in the yardage fantasy owners would have hoped for as he only has 89 receiving yards, that could change against the Colts. If Williams does have a strong game versus Indianapolis, his primary target will be Moore. This is especially true with Keenan Alle unable to play.

With his status as the top receiver, Moore is a must-start in any fantasy league.

Rome Odunze - Sit

It may be tempting to start the No. 2 receiver option in Chicago with Allen out. However, Odunze is still dealing with a knee injury and has been limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Furthermore, with Allen out last week against Houston, he was only targeted five times. Right now, his use seems to make him rather touchdown-dependent and given the Bears offense has only scored one touchdown this season, it is not a smart gamble to start Odunze in any league.

Chicago Defense - Start

Indianapolis quarterback Anthony Richardson had three interceptions last week against the Green Bay Packer defense. I think it is fair to say that Chicago has a stronger secondary than the Packers. Therefore, this matchup has a lot of upside with the potential for turnovers. In addition, the pass rush has been good the past two weeks, with the Bears getting three sacks in each of the first two games. Given this defense's talent, if you have the Chicago defense, they have to be in your starting lineup.

Cairo Santos - Start

Santos is one of the most accurate kickers in the league. His career field goal percentage ranks No. 16 all-time and No. 10 among active kickers. As far as fantasy points, he is No. 7 among kickers so far, according to ESPN, with an average of 12 points per game. There is something to be said for consistency, and Santos consistently finds ways to create solid fantasy points. So, if you need a reliable kicker on your fantasy roster, Santos is a great option that could be available on the waiver wire.
