CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Felix Peña from Triple-A Iowa. Infielder Tommy La Stella has been optioned to Triple-A.

Peña will be available for the Cubs this afternoon as they continue their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

The 27-year-old Peña joins the Cubs for the fourth time this season, as he is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (8 ER/16.0 IP) in 10 relief outings during his previous big league stints. He is 1-1 with five saves and a 6.94 ERA (18 ER/23.1 IP) in 17 relief appearances with Iowa this season, striking out 22 batters in 23.1 innings. Peña made his big league debut with the Cubs last year and overall is 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA (12 ER/25.0 IP) in 21 career major league relief outings.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Peña originally signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on March 9, 2009 out of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He is 30-40 with 12 saves and a 3.91 ERA (283 ER/652.0 IP) in 196 minor league appearances (78 starts) covering nine minor league seasons.

La Stella, 28, is batting .298 (17-for-57) with six doubles, two homers and five RBI in 37 games with the Cubs this season. With Iowa, he is batting .213 (20-for-94) with two doubles, one homer and four RBI in 26 games.
