MESA – The Chicago Cubs today assigned nine players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 49 to 40 players.
Right-handed pitchers Luke Farrell, Cory Mazzoni, Alec Mills and Jen-Ho Tseng; left-handed pitchers Dario Alvarez and Rob Zastryzny; and infielder David Bote have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: infielder Chesny Young and outfielder Jacob Hannemann. Chicago’s spring roster of 40 players consists of 20 pitchers (three non-roster invitees), five catchers (three non-roster invitees), 10 infielders (three non-roster invitees) and five outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
