CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to July 18) with right biceps inflammation. Right-handed pitcher Anthony Bass has been activated off of the 10-day disabled list.

Additionally, right-handed pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. (paternity list) and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. (family medical emergency leave list) have returned to the active roster, while infielder David Bote and left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Right-handed pitcher James Norwood, who had been optioned to Iowa, has been recalled to take Morrow’s spot on the 25-man roster.

Almora, Bass, Edwards and Norwood will all be available for the Cubs tonight as they begin their five-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

Bass, 30, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on July 8 (retroactive to July 5) due to illness. He made one rehab appearance as part of his return, tossing a scoreless inning for Iowa on Tuesday in Memphis. Bass has no record and a 0.63 ERA (1 ER/14.1 IP) in 14 relief appearances for the Cubs this season.

Almora, 26, is batting .319 (88-for-276) with a career-high 19 doubles, four homers and 28 RBI in 86 games with the Cubs this season. He missed last Sunday while on the family medical emergency leave list.

Norwood, 24, is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA (1 ER/2.2 IP) in three relief outings with the Cubs this year, his first stint on a big league roster. He has combined to go 1-2 with a 2.13 ERA (9 ER/38.0 IP) in 29 relief appearances in the minors between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee.

Morrow, 33, has no record, 22 saves and a 1.47 ERA (5 ER/30.2 IP) in 35 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. This marks his second stint on the 10-day disabled list in 2018, as he missed time last month due to lower back tightness.
