Cubs makes several roster moves including Ian Happ to IL |
On Friday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs announced a few roster moves ahead of their contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Cubs outfielder Ian Happ was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left rib contusion (bruise). The move is retroactive to May 4. "There’s a number of things that have bothered him or things that are still a little uncomfortable for him," Ross told the media during pregame. Happ was batting .167 with a double, 15 walks, two homers, and four RBIs in 26 games this season. In a surprise move, reliever Kyle Ryan was designated for assignment. If he doesn't get claimed off waivers, he could land in Triple-A Iowa. Ryan had a 3.38 ERA in three appearances this season. In his three seasons with the Cubs, he had a 5-2 record with a 3.86 ERA with one save and 18 holds across 94 appearances. To fill those two spots, outfielder Nick Martini and reliever Jason Adam were both recalled from the Iowa Cubs. Adam has a 9.45 ERA in 8 appearances this season. Martini doesn't have an official at-bat this season at the big league level. Both players will be available this afternoon against the Pirates at Wrigley Field.
