CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated infielder Frank Schwindel from the 10-day injured list and placed infielder Andrelton Simmons on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain (retroactive to July 11).

Schwindel, 30, was placed on the injured list on June 18 with a low back strain. In his second season with the Cubs in 2022, he has played in 62 games, batting .237 (54-for-228) with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 33 RBI. The right-handed hitter appeared in five rehab games with Triple-A Iowa from July 8-13, tallying two hits, including a solo home run.

The six-foot, one-inch Schwindel joined the Cubs via waiver claim from the Oakland Athletics on July 18, 2021. He made his Cubs debut, July 30 and played in 56 games for the Cubs during the remainder of the season, going 76-for-222 (.342) with 19 doubles, one triple, 13 homers, 40 RBI and a 1.002 OPS. Schwindel became the third Cub in the last 60 years to record 30 RBI in their first 33 games with the franchise (also Joe Pepitone and Andre Dawson).

The Livingston, N.J. native owns a career .276 average (134-for-485) with 30 doubles, one triple, 22 home runs and 76 RBI in 132 major league games. He was originally drafted by Kansas City in the 18th round of the 2013 Draft out of St. John’s University.
