ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Chicago Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Daniel Palencia from Triple-A Iowa today and optioned right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts to Triple-A Iowa.
Palencia, 24, is 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA in seven relief appearances this season with the Cubs. In 17 appearances—one start—with the I-Cubs, he is 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA (8 ER/11.0 IP). Roberts, 27, has made four relief appearances for the Cubs this season. He hasn’t allowed a run in 6.0 innings pitched and in game one of today’s doubleheader at St. Louis, struck out a career-high three batters in 2.0 innings pitched. With Triple-A Iowa this season, Roberts did not allow a run in 12 relief appearances (13.1 IP) and struck out 18. The Cubs play the St. Louis Cardinals in game two of a doubleheader tonight at Busch Stadium at 7:15 p.m. CT. That game can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score.
