Popular Wrigleyville bar Houndstooth Saloon to close

Chicagoans and tourists alike have long flocked to Wrigleyville for its lively atmosphere and abundance of bars and restaurants near Wrigley Field.

One such establishment that has been a popular spot for Cubs fans and others visiting the area is the Houndstooth Saloon.

Sadly, the bar announced that it is closing via social media.

"With heavy hearts and many beloved memories, we would like to share with all of you, our loyal patrons, Houndstooth Saloon will be permanently closing on Sunday, May 14th, 2023," the Facebook post began.

"We have been so fortunate to be a part of your kind, gracious, supportive community," the post continues. "Whether you joined us for a special event or an exciting game day, we hope you enjoyed our services as much as we enjoyed serving you."

According to the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce, the Houndstooth Saloon was also a popular destination for fans of Alabama football. The bar's name is a nod to the University of Alabama's football team, which has a long-standing tradition of wearing houndstooth-patterned hats on the sidelines.

While the reasons behind the bar's closure are not yet clear, it is undoubtedly a loss for the Wrigleyville community.

To the Houndstooth Saloon: we raise a glass and pour one out for you. You will be missed.
