Cubs place Jameson Taillon on IL, recall pitcher

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon was placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 25) with a left groin strain.

Assad, 28, has made three starts for the Cubs this season and is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA (6 ER/14.0 IP). He opened the season on the injured list and made his 2025 season debut on August 12 at Toronto.

Taillon, 33, is 9-6 with a 4.15 ERA in 19 starts for the Cubs this season.

The Cubs play the San Francisco Giants tonight at 8:45 p.m. CT at Oracle Park in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
