MILWAUKEE – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain and recalled right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza from Double-A Tennesse
Espinoza, 24, begins his third stint with Chicago as he was up with the club for a May 30 doubleheader against Milwaukee and again from June 4-7, but did not appear in a game. He made his big-league debut in the nightcap of the May 30 doubleheader, allowing two runs in 4.0 innings. Espinoza on June 28 with Tennessee threw 5.0 shutout innings with one walk and seven strikeouts as part of a combined no-hitter against Rocket City. He has pitched in 12 games (11 starts) for Tennessee this season, most recently making a 1.0-inning scoreless relief appearance against Birmingham on July 4. The six-foot tall Espinoza has posted a career 4.15 ERA (124 ER/269.0 IP) in 73 minor league games (71 starts) in the Red Sox (2015-16), Padres (2016-21) and Cubs (2021-22) organizations. He was acquired from the Padres, July 30, 2021 for OF Jake Marisnick. Hendricks, 32, is 4-6 with a 4.80 ERA (45 ER/84.1 IP) in 16 starts for the Cubs this season.
