Cubs reduce Spring Roster to 33 players, Happ to Triple-A |
MESA – The Chicago Cubs have assigned six players to minor league camp and granted right-handed pitcher Junichi Tazawa his release, reducing their spring roster from 40 to 33 players.
Right-handed pitchers Dillon Maples and Alec Mills, outfielder Ian Happ and catcher Taylor Davis have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: infielder Cristhian Adames and outfielder Johnny Field. Chicago’s spring roster of 33 players consists of 20 pitchers (which includes one non-roster invitee plus right-handed pitcher Kendall Graveman, 60-day I.L.), two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. 33 players left in camp, including injured list candidates Kendall Graveman, Xavier Cedeno, Tony Barnette and Brandon Morrow. Relievers still in camp include Allen Webster, Randy Rosario and Kyle Ryan.
Dillon Maples and Taylor Davis were optioned, Johnny Field and Cristhian Adames assigned to minor league camp. 12 position players left in camp, not including Addison Russell. Mark Zagunis still in camp, but Cubs still looking at external options.
