Cubs infielder called up, reliever sent down |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled infielder Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Iowa. Left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny has been optioned Triple-A.
La Stella will be available for the Cubs this afternoon as they conclude their three-game series against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field. The 28-year-old La Stella joins the Cubs for the fourth time this season. He is hitting .298 (17-for-57) with six doubles, two home runs, six RBI in 37 games with the Cubs this season. He has a .414 on-base percentage and .509 slugging percentage, good for a .923 OPS. With Iowa this year, La Stella has batted .218 (24-for-110) with two doubles, a homer and six RBI in 33 games. La Stella was a member of Chicago’s Opening Day roster and was optioned to Iowa on April 21. He returned to the big leagues on May 7 and returned to Iowa on May 19 and also had a stint from June 16-July 22. Zastryzny, 25, is 1-2 with one save and a 6.67 ERA (20 ER/27.0 IP) in 10 appearances, three as a starter, with Iowa this season. He has no record and a 6.75 ERA (3 ER/4.0 IP) in one relief outing with the Cubs.
