Cubs activate Dillon Maples from IL, option reliever |
ST. LOUIS – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Dillon Maples off the 10-day injured list and optioned left-handed pitcher Kyle Ryan to Iowa.
Maples, 29, landed on the 10-day injured list, June 16 (retroactive to June 15), with a right triceps strain. In seven injury rehab outings with Iowa from June 26-July 17, Maples walked eight, struck out 11, limited hitters to a .182 average and a .554 OPS to go along with a 3.72 ERA (4 ER/9.2 IP). Maples this season has no record with a 1.99 ERA (5 ER/22.2 IP) in 18 relief appearances for Chicago. He has walked 14 and struck out 32, good for an average of 12.71 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, and has held opponents to a .122 average (9-for-74) and a .511 OPS. Ryan, 29, has no record and an 8.31 ERA (4 ER/4.1 IP) in five relief appearances for Chicago this season. In 17 relief appearances with Iowa, he is 2-0 with a save and a 1.59 ERA (4 ER/22.2 IP) with six walks and 24 strikeouts.
