Dansby Swanson reacts to going on the injured list, missing All-Star game |
The Chicago Cubs placed All-Star shortstop Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, retroactive to July 6 because of a left heel contusion.
The 29-year-old hopes to be back in the lineup as soon as he can rest his foot. "It is unfortunate to get into this position," Swanson said to the media Saturday. "The biggest thing, just from a timing standpoint, I'm getting four days with the break. It was almost, in a way, like a good insurance policy not to lose some retroactive dates." Swanson is hitting .258 with 10 homers and 36 RBIs this season. Cubs manager David Ross thankful for how Swanson has played this season. "He has been great for us. I’m super thankful by how we were able to get that type of player, the way he works, the example he sets, the way he is wired," Ross said. Swanson was named as a reserve for the National League All-Stars for the second time.
