Injury updates on Rizzo and Montero |
Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Montero was injured in the top of the sixth inning on Wednesday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Bryant threw a high throw to Montero at the plate who appeared to twist awkwardly on a tag play and injured his leg. However, good news for the Cubs as skipper Joe Maddon told reporters that Montero is fine and the doctors found no problem with the knee. He will travel on the team's road trip to Miami. For the season, Montero is batting .197 with three homers and fifteen RBIs. Cubs slugger Anthony Rizzo exited late in Wednesday's game because of stiffness in his back. "If it wasn't 7-0 there I stay in the game, but just be cautious about it," Rizzo told reporters after the game. Maddon said after the game that he is currently day-to-day and might sit on Thursday against a lefty. In 2016, Rizzo is batting .277 with 17 home runs, 54 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .402.
