MLB Network analyst on Cubs with trade deadline: "They've got to be buyers" |
The Chicago Cubs finished strong to end the first half as they went 5-2 with impressive wins against the Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals.
Their recent play might have swung the strategy for Jed Hoyer and Co. and made the Northsiders buyers at the all-important trade deadline. MLB Network analyst Jon Heyman, during his interview on the Mully & Haugh Show on Monday morning, believes that the Cubs will be buyers instead of sellers. “They better be non-sellers,” Heyman said. “They've got to be buyers at this point. I mean, they are the Cubs. They are the third-biggest market. They have the revenue; it’s high. We talk about this a lot. They’re in the race. I know they haven’t been great this year, but they showed something at the end. They beat up on the Orioles. “Good for them. They are much better than they’ve shown over the first half. I do believe they should be buyers.” It should be interesting to see what, if any, moves the Cubs do in the next few weeks. The Cubs are currently 3.5 games back in the NL Wild-Card standings.
