It's official: Cubs sign standout reliever Hunter Harvey |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Hunter Harvey on a one-year major league contract. The 40-man roster stands at 36 players.
Harvey, 31, is 10-11 with 11 saves and a 3.11 ERA (64 ER/185.0 IP) across 182 career major league relief appearances with the Orioles (2019-21), Nationals (2022-24) and Royals (2024-25). He owns a career 26.8% strikeout rate (201 total strikeouts) and has struck out at least 55 batters in two of his last three seasons. His 97.4 mph fastball in 2024 ranked in the 96th percentile in the majors, per Baseball Savant. In 2023, he reached career-highs in strikeouts (67), wins (4) and innings pitched (60.2 IP). Harvey did not allow a run across his 12 appearances with Kansas City in 2025. He held opponents to a .158 (6-for-37) batting average and recorded 11 strikeouts, compared to just one walk. His current 13-game scoreless streak dating to Aug. 4, 2024 is the longest of his career. Originally selected by Baltimore in the first round (22nd overall) in the 2013 draft out of Bandys High School in Catawba, N.C., Harvey was selected to the MLB Futures Game and was an MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2014.
