Report: AL team interested in Jorge Soler

by - Senior Editor -

Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are currently at the Winter meetings this week trying to improve their team for 2017. One of the main themes that the Cubs are trying to do is get more quality pitching with another possible starter and/or relievers via a trade or in free agency.

According to a report from MLB Insider T.R. Sullivan, the Texas Rangers are interested in young Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler.

Several American League teams including Kansas City have reportedly shown interest in Soler during the early stages of talks.

Soler would fit well in the American League with his tape-shot homers at the DH position and his decent right field ability.

“We don’t have any untouchables,” Epstein said of Soler back in November. “But I still think there’s a lot more in there. He hasn’t had a season yet where he’s put it all together. It’s so obviously in him.”

Soler batted .238 with 12 homers, 31 RBIs, and an on-base percentage of .333 on the season. During the postseason, he had only two hits with 13 at-bats and three walks.

For his career, he is a .258 hitter with 35 doubles, two triples and 27 home runs.
