Roster Moves: Cubs reduce roster to 39 players

by -

Another day and another move for the Northsiders.

The Chicago Cubs have announced that they have reduced their spring roster from 41 to 39 players.

Right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa, while right-handed pitcher Vinny Nittoli has been assigned to minor league camp.

Sampson, 28, wasn't very impressive during spring training, throwing 17.2 innings in five games ances with an ERA of 8.66.

The Cubs decided to option him to Triple-A to give him more playing time and experience.

Nittoli, 30, has also shown potential in spring training pitching in three games with an ERA of 0.00.

The Cubs have assigned him to minor league camp to continue his development.

Chicago’s spring roster now consists of 22 pitchers, three catchers, eight infielders, four outfielders, and two infielder/outfielders. Among them are five non-roster invitees and two players on the 60-day injured list.

The Cubs are preparing for the regular season, which is set to begin on April 1. The team is hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 2022 season and make a run at the playoffs this year.

As the Cubs finalize their roster, fans eagerly await the start of the regular season and the opportunity to see their team compete once again. With talented players and a strong coaching staff, the Cubs are poised for a fun season.
