Victor Caratini activated, catcher optioned |
The Chicago Cubs are getting back their previous hot-hitting catcher.
Victor Caratini has been activated from the 10-day injured list and catcher Taylor Davis has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make a roster spot. Caratini has been out over a month rehabbing his broken left hamate (bone in hand) that he suffered on April 12. He has been impressive batting .571 with three doubles, a homer, and 5 RBI in six games (17 at-bats) this season with the Cubs. He will start tonight's game at first base for the injured Anthony Rizzo. For his major league career, he has batted .256 with 13 doubles, four homers, and 28 RBI in 113 games. During his rehab in the minors, Caratini hit .267 (8-for-30) with two doubles. Davis showed that he could adequately play catcher at the big league level and it appears that the Cubs have some quality catcher depth now in the minors without having to look elsewhere for help. He was 3-for-15 with a homer this season.
