CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated left-handed pitcher Daniel Norris from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Matt Swarmer to Triple-A Iowa.

Norris, 29, landed on the injured list June 23 with a left index finger strain. The lefthander is 0-4 with a 7.24 ERA (22 ER/27.1 IP), 40 strikeouts and two holds in 24 games (one start) for the Cubs in 2022. His 13.17 strikeouts per nine innings pitched is tops among all Cubs pitchers (min. 20 IP) this season. Norris allowed one unearned run in 3.0 innings in two rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa, July 7-10.

The six-foot, two-inch Norris is in his first season with the Cubs after he signed a one-year contract with the club as a free agent on March 19. The Johnson City, Tenn. native is 20-38 with a 4.78 ERA (286 ER/538.1 IP) and one save in 191 career major league games (84 starts) with Toronto (2014-15), Detroit (2015-21), Milwaukee (2021) and the Cubs (2022). He was originally selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Science Hill High School.

Swarmer, 28, is 2-3 with a 5.03 ERA (19 ER/34.0 IP) in 11 games (five starts) with the Cubs this season. The righthander made his major league debut in game one of a doubleheader on May 30 vs. Milwaukee.
