Cubs Roster Moves: Robertson activated off IL, pitcher optioned to Iowa |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher David Robertson off the injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. to Triple-A Iowa.
Robertson made 11 relief appearances for the Cubs with a 1-0 record, five saves in five opportunities and 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP) prior to being added to the injured list on May 9. He has 17 strikeouts while allowing three hits and six walks. Robertson had held opponents scoreless through his first 10 games (11.0 innings), and at the time of his injury list placement his .077 opponents’ batting average (3-for-39) ranked sixth-lowest among all relievers. Robertson, 37, is 54-33 with 149 holds, 142 saves and a 2.91 ERA (222 ER/687.2 IP) in 684 major league games, all but one in relief, with the Yankees (2008-14, 2017-18), White Sox (2015-17), Phillies (2019), Rays (2021) and Cubs. He has pitched to a 1.15 WHIP with 913 strikeouts in 687.2 innings, good for an average of 11.95 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. The five-foot 11-inch Robertson signed with the Cubs on March 16, 2022. He was selected by the Yankees in the 17th round of the 2006 Draft out of the University of Alabama. Leiter Jr., 31, is 0-1 with a 6.57 ERA (9 ER/12.1 IP) in five games (three starts) for Chicago this season.
