Bears 'making progress' on Caleb Williams' rookie contract

by - Senior Editor -

ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano shared an update on Monday on the latest with the Chicago Bears and the progress on signing rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

“No concern, no drama, making progress,” Graziano said on ESPN. “He doesn’t have an agent; I think that probably slows things down a little bit. But the Bears believe that they’ll get this done, and there won’t be any disruption. I guess that means it needs to be in the next few hours.”

Williams won't be allowed to participate in training camp if he doesn't sign.

“I don’t get the sense that this is one of those situations where you might have a rookie holdout or there’s panic," Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network Monday. "And I know it was Roquan in Chicago years ago. Different regime, different cap guy, different entire situation. No panic here. Historically, generally, these deals get done right before they have to get done. So, Rome Odunze’s deal I would be surprised if there’s an issue there…”

Williams commented recently about his contract.

“I’m not handling that,” Williams told the media. “My lawyers and attorney and everybody, the head of the Bears, everybody up there up top is handling that. That’s not my position that I’m handling.”

Bears rookies are set to report to training camp Tuesday.
