Ryan Poles releases statement after trading away Justin Fields |
It is the end of the era with Justin Fields in Chicago.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles reportedly got a lower trade return (6th round) with the Steelers to ensure that Fields went to the place he wanted and possibly had an easier path to starting one day. A classy move by the Bears to "do right with Justin". Poles released the following statement after the trade was announced on Saturday night. “We have engaged in multiple trade conversations in recent weeks and believe trading Justin at this time to Pittsburgh is what is best for both Justin and the Bears. Today, we spoke to Justin to inform him of the trade and the rationale behind it for us as a Club. We want to thank him for his tireless dedication, leadership and all he poured into our franchise and community the last three years and wish him the best towards a long and successful NFL career." Interesting clip from Courtney here. Poles may have chosen Pittsburgh over a better offer with an entrenched starter (Philly?) to give Justin a potential path to play this year. "Do right by Justin" seems to have been a true statement. #Bears https://t.co/WoT6VPHipj For three years, Justin Fields brought heart, hustle and muscle to every snap, making big plays and inspiring Bears fans of all ages with his drive and determination.
We wish him the very best in his future in the NFL, and thank him for giving his all to our team and our city. pic.twitter.com/eXBk04RFuy
