CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated infielder Daniel Descalso off of the 10-day injured list. In addition, the following six players have been recalled from Triple-A Iowa: outfielder Albert Almora Jr.; infielder/outfielder Robel Garcia; right-handed pitchers Alec Mills and Duane Underwood Jr.; left-handed pitcher Brad Wieck; and catcher Taylor Davis.

All seven players will be available for the Cubs this afternoon when they conclude their three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field. Wieck will wear uniform number 38. Chicago’s active roster now stands at 32.

Descalso, 32, was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 27 with a sprained left ankle and did a rehab assignment with Iowa, batting .148 (4-for-27) with two home runs and four RBI in 10 games, as part of his return. Descalso is batting .181 (29-for-160) with five doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI in 73 games with the Cubs this season.

Almora, 25, was a member of Chicago’s Opening Day roster and batted .243 (78-for-321) with 12 home runs and 32 RBI in 114 games with the Cubs this season before being optioned to Triple-A on August 16. With Iowa, Almora batted .224 (11-for-49) with three doubles and two RBI in 13 games.

Davis, 29, joins the Cubs for the third time this season, as he batted .167 (3-for-18) with one homer and four RBI in seven games during his previous stints. With Iowa this season, Davis has batted .235 (48-for-204) with four doubles, five homers, 23 RBI and a .338 on-base percentage in 61 games.

Garcia, 26, joins the Cubs for the second time this season as he batted .220 (13-for-59) with two doubles, two triples, four home runs, eight RBI and a .779 during his first-career major league stint from July 3-August 1. Garcia combined to bat .284 (96-for-338) with 17 doubles, 27 home runs and 78 RBI in 98 games this season between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa, posting a .369 on-base percentage and .586 slugging percentage, good for a .954 OPS.

Mills, 27, joins the Cubs for the fourth time this season, as he has posted no record and a 3.98 ERA (9 ER/20.1 IP) in four appearances (two starts) at the big league level this year. With Iowa, Mills went 6-4 with a 5.11 ERA (59 ER/104.0 IP) in 19 appearances (18 starts), pitching six innings or more in 10 of his last 12 outings.

Underwood, 25, joins the Cubs for the third time this season, as he has posted no record and a 2.70 ERA (1 ER/3.1 IP) in three relief outings during his previous major league stints. He went 3-7 with a 5.07 ERA (46 ER/81.2 IP) in 33 games (10 starts) for Iowa this year.

Wieck, 27, joins the Cubs for the first time after being acquired from San Diego for Carl Edwards Jr. on July 31.
